Message from GBS Boosters

Dear Parents,

We hope you and your students are off to a great year at Glenbard South!

There are some exciting community events coming up we thought you’d like to know about.  Come join us!

Raider Pride Night is Friday, September 8th.  Designed for the entire family, elementary school-aged children are admitted free with an adult.  They’ll receive glow sticks and pompons and an opportunity to cheer the Varsity Football Team onto the field. A fun night for all… More info here.

Glenbard South Restaurant Nights will be held at Reserve 22 at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn on Friday evenings September 8, 22 and October 6th.  Stop by R22 from 4 p.m. to midnight for a bite to eat.  Glenbard South Boosters will receive 15% of the food portion of your bill.  Dine in or carry out.  Have a meal for a cause! More info here.

On a more serious note, please join Glenbard South Boosters and Principal Sandra Coughlin for an enlightening evening on Monday, September 11th at 7 p.m. in South’s Library.  You’ll learn in quick fashion what Boosters does to support the academics, activities, aesthetics, athletics and the arts at GSHS, followed by Principal Coughlin’s presentation “What You Need to Know:  The Beliefs and Convictions of Glenbard South and District 87.”  Spend about an hour learning more about your school. We’re looking forward to seeing you there. More info here.

Another event for the entire family – the Glenbard South Raider Color Run will kick off Homecoming Week on Saturday, September 17th and is sure to be a blast! Walk 1.5 miles or run 5K.  Wheelchair and stroller friendly course.  Drench yourself in color or step around those stations – there’s something for everyone!  8 a.m. check in for 9 a.m. start.  Sign up today!  More info here.  Registration form here.

Speaking of Homecoming, it’s not just for students or alumni!  The entire school will be celebrating with a Pep Rally on Thursday, September 21st in Raider Gymnasium around 7 p.m.  The whole community – all ages – are invited!  Make it a hassle-free evening and come out between 6 p.m. and the start of the Rally for some Chick Fil A sandwiches and Rosati’s Pizza before the spirited event.

The Homecoming Game is Friday, September 22nd at 7:15 p.m. at Raider Stadium.  The traditional dance for students will follow on Saturday night the 22nd.

Other notes:

  • BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR YOUR INVITATION TO THE GSHS PARENTS’ FALL SOCIAL IN OCTOBER!  Sponsored by Boosters, this fun adults-only evening is open to all with a current Raider student. Details will follow soon!
  • If you have a student in a sport or activity, chances are we have a yard sign, decal or tshirt for you to display!  Click the previous links or, for a complete selection, see http://www.gsboosters.org/spiritwear/.

We wish you a great fall season! Your questions and comments are always welcome at info@gsboosters.org.

Sincerely,

The volunteers of Glenbard South Boosters

Special Olympics BBall and Hurricane Harvey

Good evening, Parents:

I’d like to thank you all very much for your donations for our Special Olympics basketball team. We were able to raise $1017! These special student athletes are going to love their new gear and equipment.

Tomorrow, the athletics department will be collecting old T-shirts and gym shoes for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Containers will be placed in the stadium for you to put the donations into.

As usual, the parents of the football program are the best! Thanks!

Raiders VS Galesburg

Good Evening Parents/Guardians:

Lots of info here, so I will just jump right in:

1. Fan Cloth orders are due 8/31. All order forms and money/checks should be placed in an envelope and brought to school. Please direct your sons to give the money/checks and forms to one of their coaches.

2. The fundraiser for Special Olympics Basketball will conclude THIS FRIDAY, 9/1. Our goal is to raise $2,000. That’s about $20-$25 dollars per player to reach that goal. Have your sons place the cash or check donations into the large envelope they came home with last week. The envelope will have their names on it. They should bring that to their level head coach.

3. Week 2 Opponent, Galesburg HS in Galesburg, IL. This is for the sophomore team and varsity team parents.
Permission Slips: Your son was given an field trip permission slip today. It must be signed by you and him, and then returned to Coach Kichka for the sophomores team and me for the varsity BY THURSDAY.
What to Bring: The kids should have their game gear/equipment, snacks, drinks, and a set of clothes to change into after the game.
Departure from South: Friday is an early dismissal day for the school. School will end at 12:35. Your sons will be excused during 8th period which starts at 12:00. My goal is to load the buses and leave by 12:20.
Transportation: Sophomore Team will be taking GBS mini buses that will be driven by the coaches. Varsity will be taking a coach bus. We should arrive at Galesburg at approximately 3:30 PM.
Departure from Galesburg and Arrival at South: The latest the sophomore team will stay is to halftime of the varsity game. Coach Kichka and I do not want the lower level boys out too late. If they leave at halftime they could arrive at South by 11:30 PM – 12:00 am. Varsity will not arrive back at South until approximately 2AM.
Parent Transportation Form: I have attached a Parent Transportation Form to this email. If any Fr/So parent would like to take their son home after the sophomore game you can but you must fill out the form. The form must be turned into Mr. Carlson (Assistant Principal of Athletics). All varsity players must ride the coach bus home.
Food: The varsity parents have planned a team meal for our arrival at Galesburg. Are there be any freshmen or sophomore parents willing to purchase/organize lunch for the sophomore team and coaches to eat on their drive to Galesburg? We are looking to feed 35 players and coaches. Something like Jimmy John’s or Jersey Mikes would be appropriate. If any Fr/So parent(s) are willing to do this please let me know. It would be GREATLY appreciated by the players, sophomore coaches, and me. The school will be paying for an after game meal for the players.

4. No Practice Saturday or Sunday. However, we will labor on Labor Day. This is a popular weekend to get away, but we will be practicing. Practice for all levels will be at 9:00 AM. If your son does not attend practice it will be considered an unexcused absence unless there is a family emergency or the players is sick. The lower levels will try to keep practice short and sweet.

If I have missed something I will let you know in a day or two. Thanks for taking the time to read the email.

Fan Cloth Orders and 2017 Community Outreach

Hello Parents/Guardians:

I have meant to send this email for a few days, but things have been quite busy.

Your sons hopefully brought home two items this week. First, a FanCloth GBS Football Gear catalog and order sheet. The other item is a large envelope with several copies of a letter from me (varsity players will bring this home tomorrow).

FanCloth is typically used as a fundraiser by various sports teams, schools, and clubs. I am not using this as a fundraiser. Players are not required to order, however, but I like the items they put together and I want to see our players and families wearing as much GBS Football gear as possible in and around the community. All orders and money collected are due back 8/31.

Each football season we have mandated that our players partake in various community service and volunteer opportunities. This year, we are changing it up. I feel it is important that our players and program help others, but I feel we can be more impactful if we support the families and students in our school. In short, we are fundraising for the GBS Special Olympics Basketball Team, so they can purchase new warm-ups and various pieces of equipment. The student-athletes of the Special Olympics Basketball Team deserve to have top notch gear and equipment, like most of the athletic teams at South. Please take a few minutes to read the letter that I have attached to this message. The copies of the letter can be given to neighbors, friends, family members, or teachers. The donations collected for the fundraiser should be placed in the envelope they came home with today.

Thank you for all your support. The football parents are the best!

Updated Scrimmage Schedule / Concessions

Parents:

I have attached a schedule for tomorrow’s events.

The boosters are looking for volunteers to work the concession stand at our home games AND tomorrow’s scrimmage night. This is a simple and fun way to get involved. Usually, Frosh/Soph parents will work the varsity game concessions and the varsity parents will work the sophomore games. Please consider helping out at one or two games, especially tomorrow night. Below are links to Sign Up Genius.
