Condolences Coach George

Good Morning, Raiders:

Coach Clayton George and his family suffered a terrible loss Friday. Coach George received news Friday that his younger brother, Garrett, was killed in an auto accident Friday morning. This is very sad news. All services will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Here is a link to the obituary and the funeral home where the services will be held: http://www.wheelanpressly.com/notices/Garrett-George

Please let me know if you have any questions. Keep Coach George and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

GBS Boosters Car Decals

Good Morning, Parents and Guardians:

The GBS Boosters, with the help Mrs. Cieszykowski, created over a dozen car decals for various sports and activities that your sons participate in. I would love to see dozens of cars in the parking lot and community representing our school’s sports programs and activities. I have attached an order form with Mrs. Cieszykowski’s contact info. Please address any questions or direct any orders to her.

Free ECG Heart Scans for students

Raider Football Parents,

Glenbard South HS is please to announced we will again be partnering with the Young Hearts For Life Organization to offer free ECG Heart Scans for all students. This painless test takes less than 2 minutes to complete and will check the health of every students heart. This Thursday 10/27 all students will see a presentation during their PE classes and learn more about YH4L organization and the benefits of completing this test. The testing day will be on Thursday December 1st during the students PE/Health/DE classes. Families should have received information regarding this with the Parent Teacher Conference information that was sent home. Additional signup information will be sent home as well. All students must have a signed permission slip that is to be completed online to take the test.

Since Glenbard South HS has begun this every other year test, we have identified almost 20 students who were living with unidentified heart conditions. It is encouraged that students perform this test even though they may have 2 or 3 years ago at school. Unfortunately, like we see on the news, football players die annually from not knowing the health of their heart. This past July I received a text message that a former 22 year old player of mine died on a field while playing semi-pro football in Iowa. This test will be administered by professional staff inside a curtained privacy room.

As teachers and coaches the players safety and health is our first concern and we highly encourage you to register your son for the test on 12/1. Any questions feel free to email me or search the below website for additional information. http://www.yh4l.org/

Varsity to play Hillcrest Hawks in Round 1

Schedule

Monday: 3:00-5:00
Tuesday: 3:00-5:30
Wednesday: 2:00-4:30 (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
Thursday: 6:30-8:30 PM (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
Friday: Game away at Hillcrest @ 7pm.
Saturday: 8:00-9:30 AM (Recovery Practice)

I have invited all sophomores to practice with the varsity throughout the duration of the playoffs. It is a great opportunity for them to get to know the varsity coaches and it helps with their development moving into next season. Unfortunately, not all sophomores will be able to dress for the games because of the limited number of uniforms that we have, particularly for the home games. We can dress more sophomores for away games because the uniforms are similar to the varsity.

Thanks,

Sophomores finish season at 9 – 0

Sophomore Football Parents,

What a season! From 2-7 as Freshman to a perfect 9-0 and Conference Champs as Sophomores! The coaching staff is most proud of the players for learning the game of football and doing the “little” things correct that it takes to build a team and win. So many players and maybe more than any team I have coached before contributed and took ownership of their individual role to help the team be successful.

Some players have chosen to continue to practice with the Varsity during the playoffs, while others will begin preparing for Wrestling or Basketball, tomorrow 10/25 after school at 2:40 we will be collecting uniforms for everyone. Please send your son to school with his belt, white/blue game jersey and game pants washed. Those players who will not be practicing with Varsity will also turn in their practice jersey and practice pants tomorrow. (washed please)

A season like this deserves a celebration and we are in the middle of planning a bowling/pizza party for the team. The date will be sent out in the near future. Attached you will find team pictures from Week 8 and our final team picture from Week 9.

Thank you for the Support all Season !
